Same Friday night football lights.When the EF5 tornado tore through Moore on May 20, 2013 — twenty-four people dead, Plaza Towers Elementary flattened with seven children inside — Toby flew home. He stood in front of a camera and said “your camera can’t cover what I saw today.” Then he organized the Oklahoma Tornado Relief Concert at Gaylord Family Memorial Stadium. He helped families rebuild houses. After that, his friends started joking: “When’s the concert?” every time the sirens went off. He never said no.He kept the Sooner Theatre’s doors open for two decades. His son and grandchildren performed on its stage. His foundation, OK Kids Corral, hosted families of children with cancer near the hospital in Oklahoma City — free of charge, for as long as treatment took.On February 5, 2024, around 2 a.m., he died in his sleep. The family announced a private funeral. No location. No date. Just one sentence: family, band, and crew only.In the days that followed, an employee at his Hollywood Corners venue in Norman started covering the stage with flowers fans had brought. The pile grew until it filled the boards he used to walk across.His body was buried somewhere on his ranch. The exact location has never been made public. Months later, a stone memorial appeared in Norman — beside his father’s grave, in a cemetery he is not actually buried in — so that fans would have somewhere to go.
