Wayne Osmond – The Life, Career, and Passing of a Musical Legend
Wayne Osmond, a longtime member of the legendary musical Osmond family, passed away on January 1, 2025, at the University of Utah Hospital. He was 73 years old. Born on August 28, 1951, in Ogden, Utah, Wayne was the fourth of nine siblings and the second oldest among the original Osmond Brothers lineup.
From an early age, Wayne performed with his brothers Alan, Merrill, and Jay as a barbershop quartet. The group was discovered in 1961 at Disneyland and soon became regulars on NBC’s “The Andy Williams Show.” Influenced by contemporary trends and signed to MGM Records, the Osmonds gained massive success with the hit song “One Bad Apple,” which had originally been written for the Jackson 5.
Wayne was not only a performer but also a remarkably gifted musician. He had perfect pitch, learned to play eight instruments, and eventually took over vocal arrangements from his mother. In the rock era of the band, Wayne’s guitar work and songwriting stood out. Forbes described him as an “overlooked shredder,” highlighting his technical skills and contributions to the group’s sound.
Outside of music, Wayne was also a licensed pilot and affectionately known as “Wings.” After being diagnosed with a brain tumor in 1997, he underwent treatment that saved his life but left him nearly deaf. Despite this, he continued performing, showing resilience and dedication to his craft.
A devout member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Wayne lived a principled life. He married Kathleen White—Miss Utah 1974—on December 13, 1974, and together they raised five children.
Wayne Osmond leaves behind a legacy of talent, faith, and perseverance. His contributions to music and his family’s legacy will forever be remembered by fans and loved ones around the world.
