Summer Days on the Tennessee Farm: Simple Joys, Growing Life, and Family Moments

Summer has officially arrived on the Tennessee farm, and with temperatures climbing into the mid-90s, the land is alive with the lush growth and energy of the season. The grass is rich and green, the family garden is thriving, and new life is everywhere—including in the cozy bruer house, which is now home to a flurry of baby animals preparing for their next big step outdoors.

Among the week’s unexpected joys was the arrival of a surprise guest—Lester the turtle. Discovered crossing the road near the bunkhouse, Lester spent the night at the schoolhouse, tucked into a small sanctuary of flowers, grass, and water. The next morning, he was full of spirit, having leapt from his enclosure to explore. With loving hands and gentle excitement, the children decided to release him into the garden, where he would live as their “garden turtle.” Even the family dog, Pumpkin, came along to witness Lester’s new beginning.

Back at the bruer house, the ducklings have grown quickly, and it’s clear they’re ready for more space. Counting eight in total, the children prepare a new area for them—complete with a swimming pool to splash in. There’s laughter, music, and the cool relief of shade as the family works together to care for their feathered friends.

As the sun begins to dip, music fills the air. A soulful rendition of “Will the Circle Be Unbroken” creates a powerful moment of reflection and remembrance. The lyrics echo through the farm, reminding all who hear them of the enduring bonds of family and the hope of reunion in the sky.

These are the days that define summer on the farm—hot, full of life, and brimming with love, laughter, and little wonders.
