đź’” George Strait Issues Heartfelt Plea After Texas Flood Tragedy đź’”
Country legend George Strait is stepping forward with a powerful message following the catastrophic floods that struck Texas Hill Country on July 4th. In a deeply emotional statement, Strait addressed the unimaginable devastation that unfolded in Kerr County, where a violent flash flood surged along the Guadalupe River during the night — catching families and summer campers off guard.
The hardest hit was Camp Mystic, a beloved girls’ camp with a legacy spanning nearly 100 years. More than 750 girls were there when the floodwaters ripped through, destroying cabins and scattering personal belongings. Tragically, at least 27 campers and counselors — many of them young girls — lost their lives. The camp’s director, Dick Eastland, also perished while trying to rescue several campers.
Across the region, the toll has been staggering: 120 lives lost, including 36 children, and 173 people still missing. Families who came to the Hill Country to celebrate the holiday are now mourning unthinkable losses. The community is in shock, left to sift through wreckage, memories, and grief.
In response, George Strait is rallying fellow country artists to help. He’s announced a benefit event titled “Straight to the Heart”, set for July 27th, aimed at raising direct aid for victims and honoring first responders. “Our hearts and prayers are with you all,” Strait wrote. “The goal is to raise meaningful, immediate support that can be put directly into the hands of flood victims without delay.”
Joining Strait on stage will be artists including William Beckman, Wade Bowen, Dean Dillon, and others — all united for a cause that has hit home for so many Texans.
🙏 Let’s stand with them. Let’s honor the lives lost. And let’s help rebuild what’s been broken. 💔
