George Strait – Baby Your Baby (Pure Country/Soundtrack Version)

Introduction

Picture background

“Baby Your Baby” is a track by George Strait featured on Pure Country, the soundtrack album to the 1992 film Pure Country, in which Strait starred as a fictional country singer Dusty Chandler. The album, released September 15, 1992, was his first soundtrack album and his thirteenth studio release. It also marked the beginning of his collaboration with producer Tony Brown, who would produce many of Strait’s subsequent albums.

“Baby Your Baby” was written by Phil Thomas and Hal Newman.  It appears as the second track on Pure Country, with a length of approximately 2:42.Although Pure Country yielded several singles (notably “I Cross My Heart,” “Heartland,” and “When Did You Stop Loving Me”) that charted highly on country radio, “Baby Your Baby” was not released as a single in its soundtrack version.

Musically and lyrically, “Baby Your Baby” is emblematic of the traditional country ballad style which Strait helped keep alive: tender, direct, with an emphasis on caring and emotional accountability in love. In retrospective accounts, this song is praised for its warmth and performance — in particular, its placement in the album gives a contrast between the more dramatic or romantic numbers. While not among the biggest chart-hits from Pure Country, “Baby Your Baby” remains a fan-favorite, appreciated for its sincerity and George Strait’s gentle vocal delivery.
