Neil Diamond – “Remember Me”

Introduction

Picture background

“Remember Me” is a song by Neil Diamond that appears on his 1978 album You Don’t Bring Me Flowers.  Though not released as a major single in its own right, it holds a quiet, reflective place within Diamond’s catalog.

You Don’t Bring Me Flowers was Diamond’s twelfth studio album, released on November 3, 1978, produced by Bob Gaudio. The album is eclectic in style—ranging from pop and soft rock to ballads—and “Remember Me” stands among its more introspective tracks. The orchestration for “Remember Me” was arranged and conducted by Alan Lindgren.

Musically and emotionally, “Remember Me” is often described as a gentle, wistful ballad, touching on longing, memory, and reflection on past relationships, friendships, and places once known.  In live and fan accounts, it tends to evoke a sense of soft nostalgia—less a grand showpiece than a personal conversation.

One interesting note: while “Remember Me” itself did not chart as a lead single, it served as the B-side to the single “Forever in Blue Jeans.” “Forever in Blue Jeans” became a hit in early 1979, hitting No. 20 on the Billboard Hot 100 and No. 2 on the Easy Listening chart. Thus, “Remember Me” benefited indirectly from the broader success of its companion track and the album as a whole.

Over time, though “Remember Me” may be a less prominent song in Diamond’s mainstream hits list, it remains a cherished piece among fans for its quieter emotional depth and its role within an important period of his late 1970s output.
