In an emotional, once-in-a-lifetime ceremony that nearly brought Sunset Boulevard to a halt, Sir Tom Jones has secured a historic milestone unlike any other: he is now the first artist in history to be honored with a full-body bronze statue on the legendary Hollywood Walk of Fame — a tribute that goes far beyond the traditional star plaque that has symbolized celebrity achievement for decades.
The newly unveiled monument captures Sir Tom in his electrifying 1970s prime: the iconic unbuttoned shirt, the form-fitting trousers, and the unmistakable wide-legged stance that became a signature of his performances. Standing more than 9 feet tall including its pedestal, the bronze figure dominates the space outside the TCL Chinese Theatre, resting atop a base crafted from authentic Welsh slate imported directly from his birthplace, Pontypridd.
“I never thought I would see myself turned into a statue — especially a boy from the coal mining valleys of Wales,” Sir Tom said with emotion, surrounded by his family and thousands of cheering fans lining the boulevard. “But if I’m going to stand on Hollywood Boulevard forever, let it show that a voice from the valleys can reach the whole world.”
The tribute was unanimously approved by the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce following a global petition that amassed 2.8 million signatures — a testament to Sir Tom’s worldwide influence and enduring legacy. Immediately after the unveiling, guest artists surprised the crowd with a live medley of his greatest hits, including “It’s Not Unusual” and the timeless anthem “Delilah.”
In one of the most touching moments of the event, Sir Tom gently placed his hand on the statue’s microphone and whispered, “We kept the fire burning.”
The monumental Tom Jones statue is now officially open to the public at 6801 Hollywood Boulevard, inviting fans from around the world to stand face-to-face with a legend immortalized in bronze.
