Introduction

Full view

“A Little Less Conversation,” penned by Mac Davis and Billy Strange, was first recorded by Elvis Presley on March 7, 1968, at Western Recorders in Hollywood, California. The song was featured in Presley’s 1968 film “Live a Little, Love a Little,” where he performed it during a party scene.  Upon its release as a single in September 1968, it achieved modest success, peaking at number 69 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

The song’s initial reception did not hint at its future resurgence. In 2001, “A Little Less Conversation” gained renewed attention when it was featured in the film “Ocean’s Eleven,” introducing it to a new generation. The following year, Dutch DJ Junkie XL (JXL) remixed the track, infusing it with contemporary electronic elements while preserving Presley’s original vocals. This remix, authorized by the Presley estate, was released in June 2002 and achieved global success, topping charts in multiple countries and reaching number one in the UK Singles Chart.  The remix’s popularity was further bolstered by its use in Nike’s 2002 FIFA World Cup advertising campaign, titled “Secret Tournament.”

The enduring appeal of “A Little Less Conversation” lies in its catchy rhythm and the universal message of prioritizing action over words. Its transformation from a minor 1968 hit to a 2002 global chart-topper exemplifies the timelessness of Presley’s music and its ability to resonate across different eras.
