Only two weeks after 12-year-old Indiana had undergone major heart surgery, everything suddenly changed.
Indiana developed a severe headache, began vomiting uncontrollably, and then collapsed at home. Rory and Rebecca were terrified. They immediately called for emergency help, knowing something was seriously wrong.
After being taken to a local hospital, doctors discovered a dangerous amount of fluid had built up around Indiana’s heart. Her condition was so serious that she had to be airlifted back to the children’s hospital in Austin where she had undergone her original heart surgery.
For Rory, there was one moment he will never forget.
He later admitted that he and Rebecca truly feared they were about to lose their precious daughter.
Doctors moved quickly. During an emergency procedure, they drained approximately 610 cc of fluid from around Indiana’s heart. And then, almost incredibly, her condition began to turn around.
Her heart began functioning better. Her color and energy returned. The fear that had filled the room slowly gave way to relief.
