Written by Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus, with Anni-Frid Lyngstad providing the lead vocals, the track explores themes of financial struggle and the desire for a more luxurious life. The song’s original working title was “Gypsy Girl”

The music video for “Money, Money, Money” was directed by Lasse Hallström and drew inspiration from the film Cabaret. It features Lyngstad in 1920s-style attire, transitioning between scenes of reality and dream sequences depicting a life of wealth and glamour. Hallström later regarded it as the best ABBA video he ever directed .​

Commercially, the song achieved significant success, topping the charts in several countries, including Australia, France, and New Zealand. It also reached the top three in the UK, Ireland, and Germany, and was ABBA’s sixth consecutive number-one hit in Australia .

“Money, Money, Money” has remained a staple of ABBA’s legacy, featuring prominently in their compilation albums and live performances. Its enduring popularity is also evident in its inclusion in the musical Mamma Mia!, where the character Donna performs the song to express her financial woes and aspirations for a better life .
