Alan Jackson Welcomes Second Grandchild – The Heartfelt Meaning Behind the Baby’s Name

June 20th marked a deeply emotional milestone for country music legend Alan Jackson and his family – his eldest daughter, Maddie Jackson, welcomed her first child with husband Connor Smith. Sharing the joyful news on Instagram, Maddie wrote:

“There is no greater honor in life than being chosen by God to be your mom. And no sweeter joy than watching your daddy adore and protect you already.”

The baby boy’s name, Wesley Allen Smith, carries powerful meaning – honoring both Connor’s grandfather and Alan Jackson himself. A touching tribute that has brought many fans to tears.

A Journey Through Loss, Love, and New Life

Before this joy, Maddie’s path was marked by profound heartbreak. In 2018, she tragically lost her first husband, Ben Selecman, who passed away after slipping on metal steps and suffering a fatal injury. He was just 28 years old and worked as an assistant district attorney in Davidson County, Tennessee.

Maddie later shared her story of grief and healing in her memoir “Lemons on Friday”, a candid reflection on pain, faith, and resilience.

When Maddie announced her pregnancy in February, she reflected on the complex mix of sorrow and joy:

“Hope, in recent years, has been a fight. A daily choice. A willful defiance against fear and loss. But grief has taught me to slow down, to be present – and there’s no better moment to be fully present for than the arrival of long-awaited hope.”

A New Beginning for the Jackson Family

Love found its way back into Maddie’s life when she met and married Connor Smith in May of last year. The arrival of Wesley is not only a blessing for the young couple but a source of joy for the entire Jackson family.

Proud grandparents Alan and Denise Jackson also shared their excitement:

“We are so happy to announce the arrival of our grandson Wesley Allen Smith.”

As the family cherishes this new chapter, Alan Jackson is preparing to take his final bow with the “Last Call: One More for the Road” tour – a 10-city farewell tour running from August 2024 to May 2025.

“I’ve been touring for over 30 years. My daughters are grown, we now have one grandchild and another on the way, and I’m enjoying spending more time at home,” Alan shared in a press release.

THE 300 SONGS MERLE HAGGARD TOOK WITH HIM — AND THE SECRET NO ONE SAW COMING. For decades, Merle Haggard kept a mysterious collection he simply called “The Archive.” Inside were hundreds of songs the world had never heard. They were never recorded, never performed on stage, and even his own family didn’t fully know what was hidden there. Then came April 6, 2016 — his 79th birthday. The very day Merle had once quietly told his loved ones would be the day he’d leave this world. At his ranch in Palo Cedro, California, the voice that shaped country music fell silent for the last time. At his private funeral, the old tour bus that had carried him across America stood nearby, shielding mourners from the cold mountain wind. When Kris Kristofferson stepped forward to sing, something strange happened — the lyrics suddenly blew out of his hands. Marty Stuart later joked that Merle probably had a hand in it, as if even in death he refused to let the moment become too heavy. But the room changed when one of Merle’s long-hidden melodies finally drifted through the open air beneath Mount Shasta. The crowd froze. Kristofferson stood still. Connie Smith wiped away tears. Even the veteran members of The Strangers, who had spent a lifetime on the road beside him, could barely breathe through the moment. Merle’s son Ben once said it best: “He wasn’t just a country singer. He was the greatest country singer who ever lived.” And yet, somewhere out there, nearly 300 unheard songs still exist — melodies Merle chose to keep locked away from the world. What those recordings contain… and why Merle Haggard never allowed them to be heard while he was alive… may be the final mystery of a legend.
