Alan Jackson: “I’m Pissed Off” – Country Music Is Gone, and He’s Here to Bring It Back

Country music legend Alan Jackson isn’t holding back his feelings about the current state of the genre. In a candid interview with Hits Daily Double, Jackson expressed deep frustration, bluntly declaring, “Country music has died and will not return.”

At 66, Jackson reflects on the shifts in country music with sharp clarity. “It’s like the 1980s all over again,” he says. He acknowledges that it’s not just the older generation feeling disconnected — younger fans in their 20s are also missing the heart of true country music. “The older people become, the more hard-core and conventional their tastes become,” he explains.

With the release of his new EP Where Have You Gone?, Alan Jackson boldly reintroduces what he calls “the genuine school” of country music. Rejecting the label of “old school,” he insists that his music is an authentic reflection of country’s roots — songs about love, heartbreak, drinking, good times, and bad times.

Jackson admits his sound isn’t tailored for contemporary country radio, but that hasn’t stopped him from staying true to the genre’s core emotions and storytelling. “I’m just as upset as you are about what’s happened to the format, or whatever they want to call it,” he said.

Through his new music, Alan Jackson reminds us that real country music is more than a trend — it’s a heartfelt expression of life’s highs and lows. And in his hands, the spirit of true country lives on.
