Hopie Feek Reveals Rory Feek Is Not Her Biological Father: “I Finally Found My Missing Piece”

Hopie Feek, daughter of well-known country singer Rory Feek, recently shocked fans with a deeply personal revelation: Rory is not her biological father.

In an emotional video posted on Instagram, Hopie shared that she had taken a DNA test through 23andMe and discovered something she “never knew she needed to know” — the man she had believed to be her father wasn’t biologically related to her.

“This is my biological dad — not the one everyone knows. His name is BC. Over the past six months, we’ve gotten really close. It’s so strange how alike we are,” Hopie shared in the video.

She also said that she reconnected with her birth mother this past year, learning how much her mother truly loved her despite not being able to be a part of her life for many years.

This revelation came just days after Rory Feek published a blog post titled “A Different Dad,” in which he opened up about the moment Hopie called and asked to meet in person. They met at the grave of Joey Feek — Rory’s late wife and musical partner in the country duo Joey + Rory — who passed away from cervical cancer in 2016 at the age of 40. Rory said the call felt like “an answer to a prayer” after a year of silence between them.

In the post, Rory revealed he had once suspected the truth. He recalled returning from Japan in 1988, after a Marine deployment, at a time when his marriage to Hopie’s mother was already troubled. He described being in the hospital the day Hopie was born, noticing how developed she appeared for a baby supposedly born early. When he commented on this, the doctor told him she was actually one to two weeks past her due date — something that planted seeds of doubt.

But Hopie didn’t take well to Rory sharing the story so publicly. She responded on Instagram, expressing her disappointment:

“Today he shared my private history in his blog, which is extremely disappointing. I shared my story because I couldn’t keep it all to myself anymore. I’m not a public person — but because Rory is, my private life becomes content for his fans, who are often cruel online.”

She went on to share that she regrets allowing him to write about her sexuality in his previous book:

“When I privately came out to him as bisexual, he was hateful and judgmental. Later, he convinced me to let him write about it in his book. I regret that. When the book came out, he got overwhelming support — I got the opposite: more hate from his fans. The things he wrote in that chapter still hurt.”

Hopie concluded by saying she now wants to reclaim her own story:

“Looking back, I feel like he used my story to sell books. From now on, I just want my stories to be mine to tell and share.”
