“Stuck on You” marked Elvis Presley’s triumphant return to the music scene following his two-year service in the U.S. Army. Recorded on March 20, 1960, at RCA Victor’s Nashville studio, the track was swiftly released on March 23, 1960, becoming his first single of the 1960s. The song was penned by songwriters Aaron Schroeder and J. Leslie McFarland and published by Gladys Music, Presley’s publishing company.

“Stuck on You” showcased Presley’s seamless transition back into the entertainment industry. The single soared to the top of the Billboard Hot 100 chart by late April 1960, becoming his thirteenth overall number-one hit. It also reached number six on the R&B chart and number three on the UK Singles Chart. Notably, the song ended Percy Faith’s nine-week reign at number one with “Theme from A Summer Place.”

The single’s release was accompanied by a distinctive picture sleeve featuring the RCA Victor logo and catalog number. The sleeve prominently displayed “ELVIS” in red letters, along with the statement: “Elvis’ 1st new recording for his 50,000,000 fans all over the world,” referencing his previous hits compilation “50,000,000 Elvis Fans Can’t Be Wrong.”

The recording session featured Presley’s regular band, The Blue Moon Boys, with Scotty Moore on lead guitar and D.J. Fontana on drums, along with additional musicians such as Hank Garland on six-string bass guitar, Bob Moore on double bass, Floyd Cramer on piano, Buddy Harman on drums, and backing vocals by The Jordanaires.

“Stuck on You” not only reaffirmed Elvis Presley’s status as a leading figure in rock and roll but also demonstrated his enduring appeal and ability to captivate audiences worldwide, even after a significant hiatus.
