“The Wonder of You,” written by Baker Knight, was first recorded by Ray Peterson in 1959, reaching #25 on the Billboard Hot 100. Elvis Presley later popularized the song with his live rendition recorded in Las Vegas in February 1970. Released as a single in April 1970, it became a significant hit, topping the UK Singles Chart for six weeks and peaking at #9 on the U.S. charts.

In 2016, “The Wonder of You” was reimagined as the title track of a compilation album featuring Elvis’s original vocals accompanied by new orchestral arrangements from the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. This project, recorded at Abbey Road Studios, followed the success of the 2015 album “If I Can Dream,” which employed a similar concept. Priscilla Presley, who served as an executive producer, noted Elvis’s admiration for operatic vocalists and believed he would have appreciated these orchestral interpretations.

The album achieved commercial success, debuting at #1 on the UK Albums Chart and making Elvis the solo artist with the most UK number-one albums at that time. It also topped the Billboard Classical Chart in the United States. The project’s success demonstrated the enduring appeal of Elvis’s music and introduced his work to a new generation of listeners.

“The Wonder of You” has also been embraced by sports fans, notably by English football clubs such as Arsenal and Port Vale, where it is played as an anthem during matches, further cementing its place in popular culture.

This orchestral collaboration highlights the timeless quality of Elvis Presley’s performances, showcasing his versatility and the adaptability of his music across different genres and generations.
