For Engelbert Humperdinck, one particularly touching song became a deeply personal tribute to his life and love with Patricia Healey, his wife of many decades.
Released on his 2017 album The Man I Want to Be, “I’m Glad I Danced With You” was written by their daughter, Louise Dorsey. At its heart was a memory from the very beginning of Engelbert and Patricia’s love story — the night a 17-year-old Patricia accepted Engelbert’s invitation to dance.
But by the time the song was recorded, their family was facing a painful reality. Patricia was living with Alzheimer’s disease, and the illness had changed the way she could communicate. The memories that once seemed so ordinary had taken on a much deeper meaning.
Then came an especially tender moment: Engelbert shared the song with his young granddaughter, Olivia Taliaferro. Just nine years old at the time, Olivia added her innocent voice to the recording, creating a remarkable connection between generations.
She was reportedly nervous about stepping up to the microphone, but eventually agreed after her father promised her a puppy. 🐶❤️ What began as a child’s hesitation became part of a recording filled with extraordinary emotional weight.
