Introduction

When Memory Fades, Love Remains
Some love stories are not measured by grand gestures, expensive gifts, or unforgettable journeys. Sometimes, love simply means staying—even when the person you love slowly stops remembering who you are.
He once wrote her a love poem. Perhaps one day, she may no longer remember the words. Perhaps she may even forget the man who wrote them for her. But to him, every line still carries the weight of an entire life they built together.
Alzheimer’s disease is quietly taking pieces of her memory, one by one. Familiar things become strangers. Stories once told hundreds of times slowly disappear. And sometimes, the silence in the room hurts more than any words ever could.
Every night, he gently whispers:
“I love you.”
Then he waits.
He waits for a familiar look. A smile he knows by heart. A quiet response, no matter how faint. Because to him, even after all these years, hearing “I love you too” would still be one of the most precious sounds in the world.
There are moments when he feels exhausted. Moments when guilt, helplessness, and frustration become overwhelming. But above everything else remains a love that refuses to surrender.
He hasn’t taken a true holiday in years. Not because he doesn’t want to, but because, in his heart, love has never meant walking away when life becomes difficult.
Love, to him, means staying.
It means sitting beside the woman he loves when she can no longer remember the most beautiful years they shared.
It means holding her hand even when she no longer knows whose hand she is holding.
It means continuing to say, “I love you,” even when he doesn’t know whether an answer will ever come.
And deep inside, he holds on to one belief that no one can take away from him: one day, she will find her way back to him.
Maybe her memories have become clouded. Maybe the road home will be long and filled with silence.
But if that day ever comes, he knows exactly where he will be.
Still there.
Still waiting beside her.
Still calling her by the name he has loved for so long.
And still whispering the words he has never stopped believing:
“Welcome home, my love.”
Because sometimes, memory can disappear.
But a love deep enough can remain—quiet, patient, and unwavering, right until the very end.
