Engelbert Humperdinck: An Unbreakable Love Amid the Challenges of Alzheimer’s
Legendary singer Engelbert Humperdinck — known for captivating hearts with his romantic ballads — is now facing one of the most difficult chapters of his life: standing by his beloved wife as she battles Alzheimer’s disease. In a heartfelt interview with Inside Edition, Humperdinck opened up about how his life has changed, the unwavering love he holds for his wife Linda, and the spiritual strength he finds through music and prayer.
His latest album, The Man I Want to Be, is more than just a collection of cover songs. It is, in many ways, a love letter to Linda — a reflection of their lifelong bond. Despite being 81 years old and having achieved great success, Engelbert humbly admits he is still on the journey of becoming “the man I want to be.”
His wife’s illness has transformed his everyday life. Once a highly social man, Humperdinck now describes himself as a homebody, devoting most of his time to caring for Linda and maintaining as much connection with her as possible. “It’s difficult,” he says. “There are moments on stage when the lyrics hit me harder than they used to — and I think of her, and I just can’t help but tear up.” He adds, “I don’t think it’s a bad thing for people to see a big man cry.”
Humperdinck also explains why he chose to publicly share his family’s situation: because he believes deeply in the power of prayer. “When people pray, I believe it travels through the air — like an electric current — and it finds its way to the person in need. That’s what I believe,” he says.
In the face of heartbreak, Engelbert Humperdinck remains a devoted husband, using love, music, and faith to navigate the road ahead.
