From High School Sweethearts to 53 Years of Marriage, George Strait and Norma Strait

Introduction

George Strait & Norma: A Love Story That Withstood Time and Tragedy

George Strait, known as the King of Country Music, may have millions of fans around the world, but his heart has always belonged to just one woman — his wife of over 50 years, Norma Strait. Their love story, one of devotion, family, and quiet resilience, is a shining example of enduring partnership.

The couple’s journey began in their hometown of Pearsall, Texas, where they met as teenagers. After an on-again, off-again romance, they eloped in Mexico on December 4, 1971. A simple ceremony followed at home, but their bond was anything but ordinary. George has often spoken fondly of their first meeting, calling it a moment he’ll never forget.

In 2021, the couple celebrated their golden anniversary. During a concert, George serenaded Norma with his iconic ballad I Cross My Heart, a fitting tribute to their five decades together.

Together, they raised two children — their daughter Jenifer, who tragically passed away in 1986 at just 13, and their son George Jr., lovingly known as Bubba. In memory of Jenifer, the couple established the Jenifer Strait Memorial Foundation to support children’s causes. Bubba followed a path of his own, becoming a successful rodeo cowboy and songwriter. George has called their musical collaboration “a blessing.”

Now proud grandparents to Harvey and Jilliann, George and Norma enjoy the quiet joys of family life in Texas. Norma, once the one holding down the fort at home, now joins George on tour and at award shows, proudly supporting him.

Norma Strait’s loyalty, strength, and love have been the foundation of their life together — a life filled with both loss and lasting joy. Theirs is not just a country love song — it’s a living legacy.
