“Kentucky Rain” is a poignant ballad recorded by Elvis Presley, released as a single on January 29, 1970. Written by Eddie Rabbitt and Dick Heard, the song narrates the journey of a man searching through the rain-soaked landscapes of Kentucky for his lost love

The recording took place on February 19, 1969, at American Sound Studio in Memphis, Tennessee. The session featured notable musicians, including Ronnie Milsap on piano, Reggie Young on guitar, Tommy Cogbill on bass, Gene Chrisman on drums, Bobby Wood on piano, and Bobby Emmons on organ. The production was overseen by Chips Moman and Felton Jarvis

Upon its release, “Kentucky Rain” achieved commercial success, peaking at number 16 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and number 3 on the Adult Contemporary chart. It also reached number 6 in Canada, number 21 on the UK Singles Chart, and number 7 in Australia . The single was certified Gold by the RIAA in March 1992, signifying over a million copies sold in the United States.

Although not included on Presley’s 1969 album “From Elvis in Memphis,” the song was later featured in the 1970 compilation “Worldwide 50 Gold Award Hits Vol. 1” and the 2000 re-release of “From Elvis in Memphis”
