She was born into one of the most famous families in the world, but behind the name Lisa Marie Presley was a woman who spent her life searching for her own voice, her own identity, and her own way to carry an extraordinary family legacy.
Born on February 1, 1968, in Memphis, Tennessee, Lisa Marie was the only child of Elvis and Priscilla Presley. Her earliest years were spent at Graceland, surrounded by the music, fame, and history that would forever shape her life.
When Elvis died in 1977, Lisa Marie was only nine years old. Suddenly, the little girl who had known Graceland as home became one of the heirs to her father’s extraordinary estate. Yet inheritance was never the whole story of her life.
In 2003, Lisa Marie stepped into the spotlight on her own terms as a singer-songwriter. Her debut album, To Whom It May Concern, revealed a deeply personal artist with a distinctive, husky voice. She followed it with Now What in 2005 and Storm & Grace in 2012, gradually establishing a musical identity separate from her famous father.
Her personal life, however, was often played out under an unforgiving public spotlight. She experienced four marriages, motherhood, extraordinary fame, and devastating loss.
The greatest heartbreak came in 2020, when her son Benjamin Keough died at just 27. Lisa Marie later devoted much of her remaining life to remembering him and putting her family’s complicated story into words.
On January 12, 2023, Lisa Marie died at the age of 54 after a cardiac arrest related to a small-bowel obstruction. She was laid to rest at Graceland, close to her beloved father and her son.
