Marie Osmond – The Reason She Always Keeps Her Phone On After a Heartbreaking Loss
For more than six decades, Marie Osmond has captured millions of hearts with her versatile voice – moving seamlessly from country to jazz, pop, and even opera. Recently, she released a special show, An Evening with Marie, on BYUtv, giving audiences a vibrant musical experience with a live symphony orchestra and rare footage from her lifelong career.
But behind the bright stage lights lies a deeply personal story. During an interview, when her phone rang mid-conversation, Marie revealed a touching reason: she keeps her phone on 24/7 for her children.
She recalled being in Las Vegas when her son called. She quickly silenced the phone, promising to call back later. Sadly, that call would be the last… Her son passed away at just 18 years old. “People ask me if you ever get over it. No, you never do,” Marie shared softly. “But God gives you moments of respite, even though the memories can hit you like a wave at any time.”
In the wake of her loss, Marie chose to return to the stage — not for the public, but for her seven other children who were also hurting. “I wanted my children to know that even after loss, we must keep living,” she said.
Marie’s story is not only a reminder of the value of answering those seemingly ordinary phone calls, but also a powerful testament to inner strength, faith, and a mother’s enduring love.
