Even after his passing, country legend Toby Keith continues to leave his mark—not just in music, but now on the racetrack. In a heartwarming and emotional update, it’s been confirmed that a horse owned by Keith’s Dream Walkin’ Farms will officially race in the 2025 Kentucky Derby.
The horse, named Render Judgment, will compete on May 3rd in Louisville, Kentucky—fulfilling a dream Toby held for over 30 years.
Toby Keith, who sadly passed away in February 2024 after a long battle with stomach cancer, had a deep love for horse racing. His daughter, Crystal Keith, shared her touching tribute:
“My dad dreamed of having his horses in the Kentucky Derby for over 30 years… From his fortress in the skies, he continues to fulfill his dreams here.”
Out of thousands of racehorses born that year, only 20 made it to this year’s Derby. Render Judgment was among the last to enter, securing a spot just hours before post positions were finalized. Trained by Kenny McPeek—who led Mystik Dan to Derby victory last year—Render Judgment will break from Gate 15, the same gate that produced the 2020 champion, Authentic.
Crystal continued:
“My dad could’ve earned a PhD in horse pedigrees—he loved this as much as music. Win or lose, he made it to the Derby. That’s all that matters.”
