Rory Feek and Daughter Indiana: A Timeless Tribute to Joey, Nine Years After Her Passing
March 4th marked the ninth anniversary of Joey Feek’s passing, and her husband, country singer Rory Feek, honored her memory with a heartfelt post that deeply resonated with fans and followers alike.
On Instagram, Rory shared a moving photo of his 11-year-old daughter, Indiana, visiting her mother’s grave. In her hands were a vibrant bouquet of daffodils and a watering can—a touching annual tradition. Rory wrote:
“It’s been 9 years today that Joey’s been gone. Every March at this exact time, the daffodils begin blooming here on the farm, just in time for Indiana to pick and bring to her mama’s cross. As we think of and remember her, this beautiful gesture highlights the enduring love and memories that continue to flourish in our family.”
Joey and Rory, the Grammy-winning country duo known as Joey + Rory, were married for nearly 14 years before Joey succumbed to cancer at the age of 40 in 2016. Since then, Rory has been candid about his journey through grief, sharing how he and Indiana have kept Joey’s spirit alive on their Tennessee farm.
In a past interview with People, Rory described how Indiana—just two years old at the time of her mother’s passing—still feels her presence everywhere.
“We walk and spend a lot of time at the cemetery where Joey is buried. Every time we leave, she wants to kiss Mama’s cross,” he said. One particularly poignant memory was when Indiana heard Joey’s voice on the radio and immediately exclaimed, “That’s Mama,” instinctively singing along to her mother’s song—a powerful sign of their lasting bond.
Recently, Rory began a new chapter in his life by marrying Rebecca, who is also Indiana’s teacher. In a heartfelt blog post, he shared that the idea was actually Indiana’s:
“Miss Rebecca, I think you should marry Papa,” she said. Rory recalled the emotional moment, writing, “As I wiped away some tears, I told her I thought that was a wonderful idea.”
Rory’s tribute to Joey is a testament to the enduring power of love and memory. Each year, as daffodils bloom on their farm, they serve not just as a sign of spring—but as a symbol of life, remembrance, and the love that continues to blossom in the hearts of Rory and Indiana.
