Hopie Feek Reveals Rory Feek Is Not Her Biological Father: The Story Behind the Truth

Recently, Hopie Feek — daughter of country singer Rory Feek — surprised many by revealing the truth about her family. In a video shared on Instagram, Hopie said she had taken a DNA test through 23andMe and discovered that Rory Feek is not her biological father.

“This is my real dad,” Hopie said, referring to a man named BC. She revealed that over the past six months, the two have grown close, getting to know each other and discovering many surprising similarities. In addition, Hopie has reconnected with her biological mother and realized the deep love her mother has always had for her — something she had never fully understood before.

Three days after Hopie’s announcement, Rory Feek addressed the situation on his personal blog in a post titled “A Different Dad.” In it, he recounted how Hopie had called him unexpectedly, asking to meet at the grave of Joey Feek — Rory’s late wife and musical partner in the duo Joey + Rory. Rory admitted that the call felt like an answer to a prayer, as they had not spoken for a year.

In his post, Rory explained that he wasn’t completely surprised by the news. He recalled his suspicions dating back to 1988, when he returned from Japan after a deployment with the Marines, during a time when his relationship with Hopie’s mother was already strained. Rory shared memories of Hopie’s birth — how he noticed she seemed unusually well-developed for a baby supposedly born early, and how a doctor casually mentioned that she was actually born one or two weeks past her due date, further deepening his doubts.

However, Hopie expressed her disappointment with Rory’s decision to share their story publicly. On Instagram, she wrote that she was hurt that Rory revealed her private history without her permission. “I shared my story because I couldn’t keep this secret to myself anymore,” she wrote. “I am not a public person, but because of Rory, my private life becomes content for his fans — many of whom are often unkind online.”

Hopie also reflected on a painful chapter from the past when Rory wrote about her coming out as bisexual. She shared that when she privately came out to Rory, he was “hateful and judgmental” and later convinced her to let him write about it in his book. When the book was released, Rory received massive support, while Hopie faced a wave of negativity from his fans.

“Looking back, I feel like he just used my story to sell books,” Hopie wrote. “From now on, I just wish for my stories to be mine to tell.”
