Wayne Osmond Passes Away at 73: Jay Osmond Pays Emotional Tribute to His Closest Brother

On New Year’s Day, the Osmond family confirmed the heartbreaking news that singer Wayne Osmond passed away at the age of 73. His death marks the first loss among the iconic musical siblings, leaving fans around the world in mourning.

Shortly after the family’s official statement, Jay Osmond — Wayne’s younger brother and closest confidant — broke his silence with an emotional Instagram post. Alongside a heartfelt photo, Jay wrote:
“A true legend has left the Earth. My heart is deeply saddened by the loss of my brother Wayne. It is said that where there is great love, there is great grief. As we part during our earthly journey, I feel that pain deeply.”

He continued by expressing that Wayne was the sibling he felt most connected to:
“He was my roommate and my confidant for decades. What brings me peace is knowing that Wayne has earned his wings, and I can only imagine the heights he’s soaring right now. I’m sure his reunion with our father and mother was spectacular.”

Wayne Osmond was the fourth of nine children in the Osmond family. He began his music career at a young age, singing in a barbershop quartet with his older brother Alan and younger brothers Merrill and Jay. The group would go on to achieve global fame in the 1970s after being discovered at Disneyland, eventually expanding to include brothers Donny and Jimmy Osmond.

In their official statement, the Osmond family said:
“Wayne’s legacy of faith, music, love, and laughter has touched countless lives around the world. He would want everyone to know that the gospel of Jesus Christ is true, that families are forever, and that banana splits are the best dessert. We love him and will miss him dearly.”

Wayne is survived by his wife of over 50 years, Kathryn, their five children, and his eight siblings: Verl, Tom, Alan, Merrill, Jay, Donny, Marie, and Jimmy.
